Our wonderful lido will be 96 on Sunday 1 June. We’ll be poolside from 08:30 until midday, keen to say hello to as many of you as possible and to hear your views.
We’ll also have the full range of Park Road Lido merchandise for sale — swimming hats in red and blue, mugs, large and small key rings, tote bags, and greeting cards. (Buying our merchandise raises money to cover the costs of running this mailing list and our website, so please come along and bag a bargain!)
Haringey will be marking the 96th birthday with us, with free tea and coffee available until around 11AM.
The pool programme on the day will include more opportunities for family and casual swimming, with “general swims” from 11:30 until 13:30 and again from 14:00 until 16:00. Lane swimming will operate as usual from 08:00 until 11:00, and at least two lanes will be reserved for lane swimmers during the general swim sessions. (The pool will be cleared and closed ahead of each general swim, from 11:00 until 11:30 and again from 13:30 until 14:00.)
Meanwhile, we noticed yesterday that a reduced number of lido slots are available this coming Saturday, Sunday, and bank holiday Monday, with the last available session ending at 14:00.
We’ve queried with the General Manager who says they’re in the process of adding general swims in the afternoons, so keep an eye out for these on the app and website in the next few days.
The long-awaited pool covers are due to be fitted between Tuesday 10 and Friday 13 June. These will significantly improve the energy efficiency of the centre. Four floor-mounted, motorized covers, each 5.7 metres wide, will be installed, two at each end of the pool.
Haringey has been keen to avoid closures around these works, for which weʼre grateful. The lido will remain open but with the swimming area restricted as installation work is carried out at each end. The grass is likely also to be out of bounds.
Some preparatory ground and electrical works need to be carried out beforehand, during the week of 2 June. Details have not yet been confirmed but there may be some additional disruption between Monday 2 and Sunday 8 June. Sign up to our mailing list at the bottom of this page to get the latest updates.
The centre’s IT systems were unavailable for a few weeks but are now fully operational. Anyone with a concessionary membership that recently expired should be able to renew it at reception (remember to bring proof of eligibility, residency in Haringey, and photo ID). Concessionary memberships need to be renewed every 6 months.
