Council taking over from Fusion: what we know

Thursday 5 September 2024

Council takes over on 1 October

On 1 October, Haringey Council will take over the direct management of Park Road lido from Fusion Leisure.

Fusion emailed some users of the lido a few weeks ago about the transition. The email linked to a frequently asked questions page from Fusion and leisure centre changes information from Haringey.

Over the past few months, we (the lido user group) have asked the council to confirm details of how the transition will affect the lido. We also planned to hold our Annual General Meeting (AGM) this month and had extended an invitation for members of the council’s leisure team to attend to explain more about their plans. Unfortunately, despite initial positive noises, the council have offered precious few details and no potential dates.

So we’re sharing what we do know now and will look instead to hold our AGM — ideally with the council in attendance — a month or so after the transition has taken place. We’re sure that, by then, we’ll have plenty of feedback to share.

Lido to close for six days

From late on Wednesday 25 September, bookings for the lido will no longer be taken using the Fusion app or website. Check in at reception on arrival at the centre to swim.

From Tuesday 1 October, the lido will close completely, along with the rest of the centre, for six days.

On Monday 7 October, the lido will re-open. Booking will be available via a new website and, we hope, an app, although details have yet to be confirmed.

The six-day closure is to allow a deep clean and staff training to take place, along with a first phase of improvement works. Other than new signage and unspecified “essential repairs”, the council remains tight-lipped on what improvements we can expect at Park Road.

Pay-monthly members will have their direct debits transferred automatically from Fusion to Haringey Council.

We’ve asked the council to confirm what discount pay-monthly members will receive to compensate for the closure in October, but are still waiting to hear back.

What to expect after the transition

The council isn’t looking to make changes to timetables and classes at Park Road this side of Christmas. But given they’re in favour of restoring 10- or 15-minute booking slots for the lido, we’re encouraging them to incorporate this change into the new booking system from day one — fingers crossed.

Haringey is promising a fresh period of consultation from October through to December, with a view to re-shaping leisure services during 2025.
